Really excellent program! It does exactly what you want it to. The latest update totally clears up all the glitches which recently appeared and for which the Shredder people bust a gut sorting them out. Now it works 100% correctly and if youre looking for an excellent game of chess you couldnt do better than Shredder. And the Shredder people are very, very user friendly too. Stop looking for the ideal chess game, youve just found it.

For serious chess players, this app is right at the top of the pile with ChessGenius and Glaurung. The puzzles and adaptive difficulty mode make for an engaging experience that will keep you coming back for more. (And I like the little arrow meter.)

I read all the reviews on the US iTunes store (26!) and all gave at least 4 stars but everyone is harping about not being able to save and load games. This is untrue, read the notes, its very easy. Small quip, I like the gameplay in Glaurung better, the jiggling pieces are silly and distracting. Everyone else has covered all the bases in other reviews,, nuff said.

The puzzles are good. Worth the money, as I use this more than chess genius now. Would like to see a collection of annotated games but thats not a failing of the program, just wishful thinking. Solid interface, too.

Shredder for iPhone is fantastic! It is clearly the very best chess app available for playing against your iPhone. Breath-taking graphics, great options and the finger interface with the piece popping out forward of the finger a few millimeters is the most elegant solution to the problem of an adult finger covering the piece. Truly Excellent. I know what I’m talking about. I have been immersed in the Palm, Java Phone and Blackberry worlds in the recent past and have used all of the chess programs available for those platforms. I have also purchased Chess Genius and Fritz for iPhone and feel that this is much superior. The only way you could improve on this is if it connected to ICC or FICS, allowing you to play against other people around the world.

Yes you read that right, I have been playing Chess for 50 years ! In High-School I became a hero for getting all the Students a half day off ( this was 1972 ) to listen to( that famous match from IceLand ) I was in Grade 10 at that time and never lost a Single game in those 3 years ! Shreeder has me ranked me at ELO 2000 and I suppose I can say that I have some exposure at playing Computers because I have been playing them since they came on the Market in 1980 , and have played a multitude since ! So I say THIS and Hear me ( SHREEDER) is strongest Computer chess opponent I have ever Played !!! And I have played Fritz on a high end Pentium Computer ! 2 or 3 years ago . I have yet to play Shreeder any where near its highest setting I Suppose because of that male ego thing. At Shreeders setting I would Be lucky to win 1 or 2 out of 10. I really Believe Shreeder is the strongest out There IPhone or high-end PC ! on

As everyone else said, the engine is excellent -- one of the best if not the very best here. Some of the buttons and menu choices arent intuitive and seem more difficult to find/use than some other chess games...which admittedly is due in part to more options and complexity than some other games, but the interface could still be improved. A note to the developer: is the splash screen really necessary? I want to touch the icon and see the chessboard immediately, not some splash screen. I have deleted some paid apps (and bought others as replacements) just because the splash screen annoyed me every time I used them. Ill put up with it in this case because its a great chess app, but I dont like it splash screens on apps and am not alone in this. It aint Windoze.

I really like this program especially its ability to tailor its playing level to suit my own. The tactics puzzles are really helpful as well. Highly recommended.

I stopped playing chess awhile ago as I felt I just wasnt improving any longer, turns out I just needed a coach. Shredder has helped me improve 200 points in just a month by guiding and challenging me with its excellent puzzles. I highly recommend this program. Only thing lacking is a online play feature wrapped into the package.

You cannot just email the game moves to someone--they have to have Shredder as well. Would not have bought if they had stated that in their statement about the app.

I bought it for the analysis part and I love it. I bought a different one for online play.

Prospective purchasers should be aware that this app is not able to import games - ie you can import pgns of your games or other games for analysis

The most solid chess app I have purchased (have about 10). Easiest movement of pieces, simple yet powerful interface, superb analysis mode etc. Buy it and you wont be dissapointed but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, please fix this app to use modern algebraic notation that the chess universe has used since before the invention of the cell phone! Does anyone who plays chess really want to see 1. e2-e4 Ng8-Nf6 instead of 1. e4 Nf6? Look at open source Crafty code and change it in an afternoon. Thanks (still the best app though)

Great app. Easy to use. Playing against Shredder is always fun because the app will adjust the playing strength after each game according to your performance. The puzzles are fun and challenging and I found myself spotting tactics much easier after doing the puzzles for a couple minutes a day. Its rewarding to see your playing strength rise over time as the app will graph out your ELO rating from the games you play against Shredder. Great people that are very quick with customer support. Highly recommended. Go buy it!

Love this app. Recently using the setup and enter moves feature to play through games on the go. Richly featured this is more than a game. Its a useful tool.

... Still pricey. Sure, this is a REALLY good chess app (the best Ive tried) but there are better apps out there (not necessarily chess) that are cheaper/free. For 7.99 I wish Shredder would allow you play against others via the Game Center in real time. Other than those two small complaints, this is a five star app.
